Crop Handling and Processing Department is one of the research Departments in the agricultural research institute which covers the researches, studies, the training and extension activities in processing and handling of agricultural products to develop sophisticated systems which targets quantity and quality losses reduction in agricultural products, also, optimizing final products quality to match the local and abroad markets requirements. The attention was paid, in previous stage, to maximize the quantity of agricultural products through elicitation varsities which have high productivity, and concerning about the mechanization for the most of field operations to the harvesting stage, nowadays, the concentration on searches, studies  and training courses approaches toward the enhancement in handling and processing operations (postharvest operations).

(1)- Applied researches were Conductedin various fields and branches of agricultural products processing and handling.

(2)-To carry out the development, modification and preparation of the processing and handlingdevices and equipment to upgrading the efficiency of such equipments, taking into account the rationalization of energy consumption, increasing the quality of the final product and reducing the losses.

(3)-Conducting training and extension courses, scientific seminars on the transfer of research results and special studies related to department activities to the main section of guidance and farmers and production sites.

(4)-Scientific and technical cooperation between the activities of the department and the other departmentsof the Institute, the various research organizations and universities to achieve scientific integration and benefit from the expertise of others in the implementation of integrated research covering all scientific aspects of the research topic.

(5)-Contribute in solving the problems facing the productive sector in the fields of processing and handling of agricultural products through joint projects aimed at linking the results of researches and problems faced by the productive sector.

(6)-Linking the various stages of processing in the form of integrated systems leading to increased economic return of the product.
